Break a long PDF into useful parts
Splitting separates one PDF into smaller documents. You might divide a report by chapter, separate a batch of scanned forms, or turn a multi-page file into individual pages for sharing.
Pick the split method that fits your document
Choose Custom ranges when you know the sections you want. For example, 1-3, 4-6 describes two parts: pages 1 through 3 and pages 4 through 6. Use Every page to separate each page into its own document.
Fixed intervals is useful when a document repeats the same structure. An interval of two pages, for example, groups pages 1–2, then 3–4, and so on. Count from the first page in the PDF, including covers and contents pages.
Common questions
How do I write page ranges?
Write the first and last page with a hyphen, and separate ranges with commas. For example, 1-4, 5-8 describes two sections of four pages each.
What happens with an uneven interval?
The final part contains the pages left over. For example, splitting a seven-page document every two pages produces three two-page parts and one single-page part.
When should I extract instead of split?
Split a document when you want to divide it into multiple parts. Extract pages when you want to keep a particular selection, such as pages 2, 5, and 9, in a separate document.
