Make a PDF easier to send and share
Lossless compression reduces redundant PDF data while preserving searchable text and image quality. Already compressed photographs and scans may offer little room for reduction.
Balance a smaller file with readable content
Recommended compresses and recompresses streams. Strong also shares identical streams. Light only compresses uncompressed streams. All three preserve visual quality; none downsamples or rasterizes pages.
Choose a setting based on how the document will be used. An email attachment may need less image detail than a portfolio intended for print. Always review small text, diagrams, and photographs in a compressed copy before sharing it.
Common questions
Will every PDF become much smaller?
No. Results depend on the contents and how the PDF was created. A document that is mostly text, or has already been optimized, may offer much less room for reduction.
Which compression setting should I choose?
Recommended is a useful starting point. Choose Strong when a smaller file is the priority, or Light when image detail matters more.
Can I choose an exact output size?
These levels control lossless optimization, not a target size. The result shows the actual output size. If a rewrite would be larger, you receive the original bytes.
